Developing Cultural Competency (DCC) Certification

The DCC program aims to improve students’ cultural competence and cross-cultural awareness by facilitating virtual exchanges among participants.

What is it?

The program introduces cultural skills that are applicable to activities on and off campus.

The certificate program appeals to students in all academic disciplines and prepares students to:

  • Identify their own cultural preferences and have the tools to understand the preferences of others

  • Promote cultural awareness in personal and professional settings

  • Implement strategies for working effectively across cultural differences

At the end of the semester, participants who complete program are awarded a certificate and digital badge

(+ new international connections!).

The Impact

The University Honors Program (UHP) offered to cover the cost of completing this program.

As a result, I met virtually with students from China.

There was a language (and time zone) barrier but, we were able to accomplish getting to know one another, complete projects and assignments all in the span of one month!

It was my first time interacting with international students  in a educational setting.

Which heightened my interest further

into my future global passion.
